The gluteus maximus and low back pain, acupuncture can help

The gluteus maximus is located at the buttocks and is regarded as one of the strongest muscles in the body. It is one of the three muscles connecting the spine to the thigh and attached to the coccyx, or tailbone, as well as the surrounding pelvic bones and ended at thigh bone around the hip joint and connect to IT band. Its main function is extending the hip and maintaining the trunk in the erect posture. There are three trigger points that can be found in gluteus maximus which contributes to the muscle pain: medial trigger point is along the edge of the sacrum, the tailbone trigger point is around the tailbone region and the lower trigger point is below the hip joint. The presence of trigger points is a common cause of low back pain. Acupuncture can help release trigger points at the muscle, reduces muscle spasm and reduce back pain.
